World Health Organization (WHO) CEO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says accusations made by the United States Secretary of State against him “not true.”
He first responded to the sharp criticism of Mike Pompeo himself on Thursday.
He would have claimed behind closed doors that the WHO chief was “bought” by the Chinese government and that he owed his position to a deal with Beijing.
British media recorded those words. Pompeo relied on findings from secret services.
Tedros calls the statement “untrue and unacceptable and unsubstantiated”. According to the WHO chief, his organization will not be distracted by the criticism. “Our only focus, the focus of the entire organization, is to save lives.”
US President Donald Trump has been criticizing the WHO on his lead from Beijing for some time.
The US government has taken steps to get out of the health organization. According to the White House, it has dealt with the coronavirus outbreak poorly.
