The United States is still at war with the coronavirus, the White House says. While the effects of the vaccinations become visible in the hospitals, the infection rates remain high.

On average, some 55,000 new cases are reported every day. That is 3 percent more than the average of a week ago, the first increase since January. That’s because more people are becoming infected with more contagious virus variants, and some states are relaxing against the advice of experts in corona measures.

The White House emphasizes that people must remain vigilant, especially during the spring holidays when traditionally students are going to party en masse.

The health authorities are seeing a significant drop in the number of hospital admissions of people over the age of 65. That’s because the majority of this group has had one or more corona pricks. Currently, it is mainly unvaccinated, younger people who become infected with the coronavirus.

Almost a quarter of Americans have had the first dose, while about 13 percent are optimally protected thanks to a second injection. 2.5 million injections are taken every day. Due to the high vaccination rate, more and more groups are eligible for a vaccination. This is arranged per state.

In the United States, 544,000 people have died from Covid-19. In addition, 30 million infections have been registered, reports Reuters news agency based on its own count. These figures are higher than in other countries.
