The number of people infected with the coronavirus in Latin America has passed 1.5 million. More than 73,600 deaths from lung disease have been recorded to date.

Brazil is the epicentre of the virus outbreak in Latin America. In the past 24 hours, the country has registered more than 30,000 new infections.

This brings the total to more than 800,000. After the United States, the country has the most infected people worldwide.

At least 1,239 Brazilians died of the virus last day. More than 40,900 inhabitants have now died.

However, many experts suspect that the actual figures are much higher due to a lack of testing.

Brazil’s latest figures came the same day the country’s two largest cities, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, reopened shopping centres.

These two cities are by far the most affected by the virus in Brazil. Sao Paulo now has more than 10,000 deaths, while Rio has more than 7,300.
