Russian Hacker Acquitted for Cyber Attacks in Paris

A court in Paris on Monday acquitted Russian hacker Alexander Vinnik for several cyber attacks. He was penalized to 5 years in prison for money laundering.

 

The prosecution described Vinnik as an “international hacker” and “pioneer” of cyberattacks. He was arrested in Greece in 2017 at the request of the US.

41-year-old Vinnik is the alleged owner of Bitcoin exchange BTC-E. More than $ 4 billion was allegedly laundered through his company.

He has also stolen currency from the hacked Mt Gox. Vinnik was ordered to pay $ 12 million in the US.
