Russia will begin widespread distribution of the domestically developed vaccine against the coronavirus in September, Health Minister Marshko said Monday.
Healthcare workers and teachers are the first to qualify for vaccination. Vaccination is compulsory for military personnel.
Furthermore, the vaccination is voluntary, Murashko emphasized, but an education trade union is not reassured.
The union has started an online petition against mandatory administration of the vaccine before it is sufficiently tested. A final test with 40,000 subjects has only just begun.
There has been a cautious response internationally to the announcement that Russia has developed an effective vaccine.
Scientists and the World Health Organization say more tests are needed to show it’s safe. Russia called allegations that Russia’s corona vaccine is unsafe to be unfounded.
Nearly one million infections with the new coronavirus have been diagnosed in Russia.
