President Putin Promotes The Butcher of Butcher

Read Time:1 Minute, 1 Second

Russian President Putin has promoted Lieutenant Colonel Azatbek Omurbekov. This is reported by Russian state media. Remarkable because Omurbekov is the commanding commander of the 64th Motorized Brigade, which is believed to be responsible for the atrocities in Bucha.

President Putin previously awarded the entire brigade for their “mass heroism, strength, courage and bravery” and promoted Omurbekov from lieutenant colonel to colonel. “The brigade under the command of Colonel Omurbekov carried out the task of occupying a defensive line,” the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper said.

“In capturing that line, an enemy battalion was defeated, and over 40 pieces of equipment were destroyed. As a result, the Nationalist unit (the Ukrainian army, ed.) lost all combat capabilities and was no longer involved in military operations. For three weeks, under the command of Colonel Omurbekov, the brigade repelled more than 50 attacks from the enemy, using tanks, armoured vehicles and heavy artillery.”

Omurbekov and his unit hail from Khabarovsk in the Far East of Russia. During the capture and occupation of Bucha, just outside Kyiv, they are said to have committed rapes, torture, summary executions and other human rights violations for weeks. The brigade is now said to be active in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.
