Israel Invites Leader of the United Arab Emirates to Come to Jerusalem

The Israeli president has invited the de facto leader of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to visit Jerusalem.

The countries announced last week that they had agreed to establish normal diplomatic relations, to the anger of many Palestinians.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin wrote on Twitter that he had sent Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan an invitation.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, nicknamed MbZ, is considered the most powerful man in the Emirates. Rivlin expressed the hope that the agreement between the countries will lead to economic benefits and more excellent stability in the region.

The UAE is the first Gulf state to normalize relations with Israel openly. Other Muslim countries in the region have discreetly tightened ties with Israel in recent years, according to observers.

This is partly due to the shared concerns about nuclear ambitions of Shia Iran, which declared on Saturday that the UAE made a “huge mistake” in doing business with Israel.
