French police on Tuesday arrested a man armed with a machete near Père Lachaise Cemetery in central Paris. He was arrested in his hotel room, a police spokesman said.
Bystanders reported the man to the police, the spokesman said. No information is known about possible victims.
France is on edge after a series of terrorist acts by Muslim extremists. On Thursday, three people were killed with a knife in a Catholic church in Nice.
And earlier, a teacher was beheaded for showing cartoons of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad in class in a lesson on freedom of speech.
