The American automaker Ford has snatched the head of the Apple car division from the tech company. Doug Field will become Ford’s head of the advanced technology division, it was announced Tuesday.

The field is also currently vice president of Apple’s special project group and was previously employed by Tesla. He played an important role in the launch of the Model 3 sedan. At Ford, Field will be involved in the development of smart applications for cars.

Field says he is happy to be working for Ford again, especially because of the transition that the car manufacturer is in the middle of. He started his career in 1987 as an engineer with the company and is now returning.

Under the new CEO Jim Farley, Ford is increasingly convincing investors that it can compete with, among others, Tesla in the field of electric driving and technology. Since October, when Farley took charge of Ford, the automaker’s stock prices have nearly doubled.

For Apple, Field’s departure is a sensitive blow. Apple’s auto project has seen several strategic and leadership changes since it began to take shape in 2014. Field joined in 2018 and is certainly the fourth member of the auto group’s management team to leave since February.
