All Italians who want an extra corona jab can get it from January. Now the so-called booster is only available for people over 60, patients with severe conditions and healthcare staff.

An extra dose of the corona vaccine will be available for the rest of the Italian population from January, Deputy Health Minister Pierpaolo Sileri expects.

To date, nearly 44.5 million people in Italy have been vaccinated, which is over 82 percent of the population over the age of 12. More than 1.1 million people have already received a booster.

To limit infections and encourage Italians to get vaccinated, the government has introduced a mandatory health card for all employees. With the pass, which is controversial among some of the population, you can prove that you have been vaccinated or cured of the corona. You will also receive the proof after a negative test that you have to have done at your own expense.

Italy was hit hard by corona, especially at the outbreak’s start, registering nearly 132,000 deaths from Covid-19 since February last year.
