Corona Crisis Necessitates Aircraft Manufacturer Boeing to Lay Off Mass. Aircraft manufacturer Boeing is forced by the corona crisis to lay off at least 6,770 employees.
As the global virus outbreak has put airlines in financial trouble, the US group expects to deliver far fewer aircraft in the coming years than initially estimated.
The thousands of layoffs that David Calhoun announces in a statement to Boeing personnel are the first round of layoffs.
For the time being, this will affect personnel in the United States, where more than 12,000 jobs will be cut in combination with a voluntary departure scheme.
Boeing departments outside the US are also working on plans to reduce the workforce, but this will become clear later.
Before the crisis, Boeing had over 161,000 employees worldwide, most of whom work in the US.
