Boris Johnson: Nobody Told Me That Drinks were Against Rules

According to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, no one had told him that the drinks at his official residence at 10 Downing Street on 20 May 2020 were against the corona rules. “In hindsight, I should have told people to go back in and get back to work.”

Johnson reiterated that he did not lie about the drink. However, several party members, including Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab, have said that the Prime Minister must resign if it turns out that he has lied. “That’s how it is in the ministerial code.” A former top Johnson adviser Dominic Cummings said Johnson had lied because he did know about the drink.

The prime minister thinks he should have realized that it was against the corona rules. “But I couldn’t imagine why it would have gone through if it wasn’t a work meeting and against the rules,” Johnson said he was in the yard for drinks for about 25 minutes. “I spoke with staff outside and thanked some people. Then I went back inside to work.”

The prime minister said he bears full responsibility. “But no one told me this was against the rules.”
On the night before Prince Philip’s funeral last year, two parties were also held at 10 Downing Street. Johnson apologized for this. “I only saw the invitation to the party when it came in the media last week. But I am the one responsible.”
